to jk rowling: I have to be honest, I saw the first movie before I read the books, but, I promise I read all the books thereafter. I think I started reading when I was, what, seven? I still have a ratty copy of Prisoner of Azkaban sitting on my bookshelf with no cover. That was the first one I officially owned. I grew up with your books. Your characters were more real to me than almost anything. They still are. And I don’t think that’s a bad thing at all. Your characters are honest and flawed, but there is a sort of dignity and integrity that carries them throughout the books. As your characters grew, so did I. When they learned, I learned. The themes in your books aren’t mere fairy tales or wishful fantasies. They can be applied to the every day, Muggle life the rest of us live -the idea that there are worse things than death, that love conquers all, what could be more real than that? I might add that Harry Potter has, since my first read, served as the standard for books I read. As you are probably aware, most books these days DO NOT MEASURE UP WHATSOEVER. Besides that, your incredible imagination challenges and encourages me to be creative in my own writing, in my own life. I could never fully express the love or appreciation I feel for you or your books. Because of this, although I would love to meet you, I’m afraid that if I did, I wouldn’t know what to say or how to say it. Right now, all I can think of is of the girl who stopped you on the street to thank you for her childhood. In this particular case, I think that one anonymous person can speak for me. Thank you.
